On Chromebook, you can install an App from Chrome Web Store and Google Play Store, but with the latest release of Chrome OS, you can now install Linux applications. For that, you have to install a Linux development environment. It allows you to install Linux apps on Chromebook.

How to Install Linux on Chromebook
You can run Linux tools, editors, and IDEs on Chromebooks if you enable the Linux development environment on your device. Also, you can develop an application on your Chromebook. To install Linux on your Chromebook, follow these steps:
Step 1: On your Chromebook, open “Settings.” For that, click the “Quick Settings Panel” in the lower right corner of your screen. Then click on the gear icon to open the settings.

Step 2: The settings window will appear. Select the “Advanced” tab on the left of your screen. Then from the drop-down menu, click on the “Developers” option.

Step 3: Here, you will find an option to “Turn On” the Linux development environment on your Chromebook. To turn the feature on, click the “Turn On” button.
Note:- You can remove the Linux development environment from your Chromebook. From the “Developers” settings page, if you don’t want to use it on your Chromebook.

Step 4: You have to set up the Linux development environment on your Chromebook. For that, click on “Next” to continue.

Step 5: Set up windows will appear. Here, create your username for the Linux development environment and select the Disk size. Then click on the “Install” button.
Note:- Recommended disk size is 10 GB, but you can specify a custom Disk size. More the disk size, you can install more Linux applications on your Chromebook. But it will also decrease the disk size on Chrome OS.

Step 6: After that, the installation process of Linux will begin on your system. This process may take a few minutes. Wait for the process to complete.
